What is Apple Pay?
Apple Pay allows you to pay for your purchases with your iPhone® 6 or iPhone 6 Plus by holding your phone near a contactless reader with your finger on the Touch ID. You can also use your iPhone (iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and later), iPad (iPad Pro™, iPad Air® 2, iPad Mini™ 3 and later) and Apple Watch™ to pay within certain apps.
Which Credit Union cards can I use with Apple Pay?
You can use all of your Credit Union Visa® credit and debit cards (excluding Puerto Rico and Business) with Apple Pay.

Where and how can I use Apple Pay to pay in a store?
You can use Apple Pay with your iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and later to pay in stores that accept contactless payments. If the merchant doesn’t accept Apple Pay, you can use your physical Credit Union credit and debit cards to swipe and sign to pay for purchases as you normally would.
Can I still use my Credit Union credit and debit card when registered for Apple Pay?
Yes, you can continue to use your physical Credit Union credit and debit card as you have in the past. In fact, if you encounter a merchant that doesn’t accept Apple Pay or the Apple Pay system doesn’t work for you at the time of purchase, please use your physical Credit Union credit and debit card to complete your purchase.
Will I continue to earn rewards and benefits from my credit or debit cards when I pay using Apple Pay?
Yes. When you pay for purchases using Apple Pay, you'll continue to get the rewards, benefits, and security that your Credit Union credit and debit cards provide.
Is Apple Pay secure?
Apple Pay is more secure than using a traditional credit or debit card. Every transaction on your iPhone or iPad requires you to authenticate with Touch ID or your passcode. Your card number and identity aren’t shared with the merchant, and your actual card numbers are not stored on your device or on Apple servers. You'll still enjoy all the benefits of your Credit Union credit or debit card, in addition to the protection of our Zero Liability Policy that protects you from unauthorized purchases.
How are my privacy and personal information protected?
Since Apple Pay doesn't store your credit or debit card number on the device, you never reveal your name, card number or security code to merchants.
How do I set my Credit Union card as the default card?
The credit or debit card associated with your iTunes® account, or the first card you add to Wallet & Apple Pay, is automatically set as your default card. To change your default card within your settings:
- Go to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Tap Default Card.
- Choose a new card.
When I add my Credit Union card to Apple Pay it doesn't look like the card in my wallet. Why?
Apple Pay uses a graphical representation that may not be an exact replica of your Credit Union card. All Credit Union consumer debit and credit cards (excluding Puerto Rico and Business) can be registered within Apple Pay.
When I attempt to take a picture of my card to add it to Apple Pay, it won’t scan. Why?
If you have a credit or debit card that is not embossed, you may have difficulty scanning your card with your phone’s camera. In this case, please manually enter your card information.
What happens if I receive the message “card cannot load at this time”?
Often this is due to poor cell phone/Wi-Fi signal. Please re-enter the card information in order to fully enroll into Apple Pay.
During enrollment of my credit and/or debit card into Apple Pay I am prompted to contact the Credit Union to verify my card. Why is this happening?
There are various reasons why you may be asked to contact the Credit Union to verify your account. The most common examples are a mismatch between the address registered in your iTunes account and the billing address associated with your card, or a security code mismatch. This additional verification step is for your protection to ensure that your card is not being added to Apple Pay without your consent or knowledge. As part of the verification process, you may be asked to confirm recent account activity.
What should I do if my iPhone is lost or stolen?
If your iPhone is lost or stolen, you can suspend Apple Pay by using the "Find my iPhone" app on another Apple device, or by visiting icloud.com and select the option for "Lost Mode." You can also contact BCU Member Relations at 800-388-7000. A representative will assist you with suspending your Credit Union cards in Apple Pay. If you find your phone, you can resume Apple Pay by following the prompts on your phone or by using the "Find my iPhone" app.
If your phone has been stolen you will be given the option to "Erase All" when logged into icloud.com. This will delete all your cards from Apple Pay and the Secure Element. If you are in doubt regarding the status of your digital account number, please contact the Credit Union.
What should I do if my Credit Union credit or debit card registered within Apple Pay is lost or stolen?
If your credit or debit card is lost or stolen, you can contact us at one of the numbers listed below or visit your local service center. We will help you replace your card, deactivate your wallet’s digital account number and add your new card to Apple Pay.

Do I need to re-register my credit and/or debit card in Apple Pay when my card is reissued due to expiration or if lost or stolen?
Yes. When you receive a new card from the Credit Union, you will need to remove your old card from Apple Pay and enter your new card information following the same enrollment procedures.
What do I need to use Apple Pay on the Apple Watch?
To use Apple Pay on the Apple Watch, you will need the following:
- Apple Watch paired with an iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus and later
- The latest version of watchOS
- A passcode on the Apple Watch and wrist detection turned on
- iCloud account
I just bought an Apple Watch. How do I set it up to use Apple Pay and my Credit Union debit or credit card?
In order to use Apple Pay on your Apple Watch, you will need to add your debit or credit card following these steps. Please note that if you already have your Credit Union debit or credit card loaded on your iPhone or iPad, you will still need to add it to your Apple Watch.
- Apple Watch is unlocked and connected to the paired iPhone via Bluetooth
- Within the Apple Watch app on your phone, select “Wallet & Apple Pay” then click “Add Credit or Debit Card”
- You may be prompted to enter your Apple ID password
- Follow the on-screen steps
How do I use Apple Pay on the Apple Watch?
To complete a payment on an unlocked Apple Watch, please follow these instructions:
- Double-click the side button.
- You will see the default card image.
- Swipe left or right to select a different card for payment.
- To make a payment, hold the Apple Watch display within a few centimeters of the contactless reader.
- A gentle tap and beep will confirm payment was sent. A checkmark will also appear on the watch screen.
